The QPCOUE and Our Strategic Alliances

The Queensland Police Commissioned Officers’ Union of Employees is a registered Union under the Industrial Relations Act 1999.

The Union represents Commissioned Officers of the Queensland Police Service from the rank of Inspector to Chief Superintendent inclusive who voluntarily choose to be a financial member of this Union.

The Union’s business is conducted by a duly elected Executive Committee consisting of ten elected members comprising a President, Vice-President, Secretary/Treasurer and seven (7) Executive members. For members only MODIFIED MINUTES FROM THESE MEETINGS ARE FOUND UNDER ‘UNION NEWS’.  An election of Executive Members was conducted with a new Executive elected taking effect from 1 July 2020 for three (3) years. A copy of the Certificate of Election is located under ‘union news’.  Elections are conducted on behalf of the Union by the Electoral Commission of Queensland.  Union Rules have been modified to provide for three (3) year terms for Executive as from election in 2017.

The Union provides a range of services to financial members of the Union including representation, advocacy and advice concerning:

  • Industrial issues (collective and individual bargaining), housing and other entitlements.
  • Disciplinary issues, member welfare, mortality fund.
  • Workplace and Corporate Health and Safety issues, Fitness for Work policy and committee representation.
  • Police Award and determination advice/assistance – preparation of material for hearings before QIRC.
  • Advocacy to senior management on specific member issues/concerns.
  • Lateral transfers, working conditions/hours of duty, managed time provisions, proposed contracts.
  • Sick Leave Bank, Part time issues.
  • Uniform Committee and issues, representation on multiple QPS committees
  • Legal representation/advice for financial members.
  • Professional development issues – see additional information under “Union News” on main menu.
  • Welfare support, family support in need, mental health/stress issues.

Did you know?

The Queensland Police Commissioned Officers’ Union of Employees (formerly the Queensland Police Officers’ Union of Employees) registered as an Industrial Union in Queensland in 1925 with 21 members. The QPCOUE now has over 330 financial members.

The QPCOUE also has a Common Interest Agreement with the Qld Fire and Rescue Service Senior Officers Union. A copy of that Agreement is attached for information.
